Neutron radiography is one of effective tools to determine hydrided region in Zircaloy cladding tubes. In this work, the practicability of the neutron radiography for hydrogen analysis is further investigated by using standard samples with known hydrogen concentration. Local hydrogen concentration in hydrided Zircaloy tube is quantitatively estimated using the standard samples by neutron imaging plate (NIP) method. The local area is equivalent to a picture element in the image; e.g., 0.1mm$$times$$0.1mm. In addition, contribution of an oxide film in the tubes to the images is investigated using oxidized samples with hydrides or no hydride. In NIP images of oxidized tube no oxide film was recognized. Numerical image analysis also shows no effect of the oxide film on the image. These results show that the influence of oxygen on image contrast can be neglected when hydrogen analysis is performed on the Zircaloy tube with oxide film and hydrides by NIP method.

Development of automatic detection and measurement system for the Pu spot in the MOX fuel pellet

no journal, ,

For the safe design of MOX fuel, plutonium (Pu) spot analysis is an important control point, thus maximum diameter and Pu content of the Pu spot is defined as MOX fuel specification. Diameter and Pu content of the Pu spot has been analyzed by detecting Pu spot from pictures taken by alpha-autoradiography using commercial imaging analysis software and measure its diameter and content by hand work. Because this method requires a lot of work, automatic detection and measurement system for the Pu spot diameter and Pu content was developed to save workload.

Study on the boiling mechanism under the high pressure region, 2; Bubble growth process on visualized boiling images with semantic segmentation algorism

no journal, ,

The establishment of the evaluation method of the critical heat flux for light water reactors is needed. However, the boiling phenomena under high pressure remain to be clarified. The bubble growth process was investigated with a time-series of the identified bubbles on the basis of the developed feature extraction method for the video-recoded frames of boiling bubbles on the heat transfer surface under high pressure and temperature. The applied semantic segmentation algorism is known as a proven machine learning technology for an autonomous driving system as well.
